Re: Audacity can't find ffmpeg and lame files
Leland, Going back to where we discussed this by e-mail, I think we both had some reservations about using the HOME directory. On balance I don't think you can ask different members of the same family to install their own version of LAME and FFmpeg - it's onerous enough already even when it works. A...

Re: 1.3.13 RC1 won't run on Win 2k
AlanHK, thanks for the report. I'm not very happy that videohelp are apparently promoting 1.3.13 rc1 as if it were a release without explaining what "rc" means (release candidate) and then linking direct to Googlecode. So I have asked them to consider if they can make this clearer. That sa...

Re: Audacity can't find ffmpeg and lame files
Now they're going to do some more in Lion: http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/11/03/31/mac_os_x_10_7_lion_sets_finds_corrects_insecure_folder_permissions.html I would think they will get round fairly soon then to requiring root permission for /usr/local/lib. So if you're resigned to moving the li...

Re: Cisco Phone Prompts and WAV U-Law format
In a few months, I will get the new Beta at that time and try again to make sure the changes to 18-byte doesn't break it.(assuming it is added by that point). Thanks for your response. 1.3.13 Beta is now expected to include the fix for 18 byte and should be released in the next few days. You can al...

Re: exporting wav to ulaw
Barring any last-minute problems with testing, 1.3.13 Beta will use libsndfile 1.0.24 and so will have the fix for 18 byte U-Law/A-Law.Gale Andrews wrote:It isn't quite clear yet whether we can get libsndfile 1.0.24 into our upcoming 1.3.13 Beta

Re: LAME vbr mp3 export wasting space
It's a simple matter of change "true" to "false" on one line. I'll make the change and see if we can get it into the nightly builds. It's in the latest Windows "nightly" and should be in the Mac nightly a few hours from now. But it should be in the upcoming 1.3.13 Beta...

Re: Audacity can't find ffmpeg and lame files
So, just how pervasive is this permissions problem? Maybe we should just go ahead and change to install in /Library/Application Support/audacity. Leland As pervasive as OS X 10.6.x which is the main source of the problem. Probably about 25 reports a month, casting around the ones I get directly, th...

Re: LAME vbr mp3 export wasting space
If I test a 64-bit version of LAME through (external program) - assuming it works - I will post to bug 340 . I've so far only tested on Win 7 x64, using the Audacity-distributed LAME. Using what I assume to be a 64-bit optimised version of LAME, I can make the Audacity command-line export 4 times s...

Re: LAME vbr mp3 export wasting space
Thanks for following up, Leland. Confirmed too on Windows on some VBR "Medium" preset exports that --nores using (external program) produces similar file size to a comparable "MP3 files" export. Unfortunately the Audacity CLI (on tests on Windows 7 x64) is up to five time slower ...
