Re: random static while recording

Can you attach a sample of the noise (a few seconds of WAV will do). You can use "Upload attachment" underneath the message "Preview/Submit" buttons. I assumed there were no dropouts and the level was much increased when this happens. I assume the mic (you're recording from) is b...

Re: how do you record in the center of a track

Click in any track at the place you want recording to start, then press Record. The recording will start from that point in a new track. You can record at the end of selected tracks (or all tracks if none are selected) by holding SHIFT then pressing Record. If some tracks are finished, you can selec...

Re: (Beginner's) playback problem; no sound.

Having just reinstalled v. 1.3.14 after upgraded from Windows Vista to Windows 7, recording from a Numark TTUSB seemed to work perfectly, and a new file was created. However, on playback there is no sound. Audacity appears on the "Loudspeaker Mixer" in Window's bottom right corner, and th...

Re: trouble installing audacity

You shouldn't need the old 1.2 version any longer, though there is absolutely no need to uninstall it. If you want to uninstall it, drag the entire folder the Audacity installation was in to Trash. Audacity 1.3.14 will open projects created in 1.2.x with a warning about the older 1.2 project format....

Re: Binaural Tones with Surf 2

Just checking in to see where we are with this. An alternative to David's plug-in Binaural Tones with Surf 2 is often asked for, and I think we are on the right lines here. Also I just had a request for a "monoaural beat generator" ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monaural_beats ). I pointed...

Re: Audacity 1.3.14 in Wine on Debian Squeeze

Have you tried installing 1.3.14 (Windows) in Ubuntu? IIRC when I had Ubuntu I had no problem installing Audacity 1.2.6 but 1.3.x did not run. I did not try installing with PlayOnLinux. On Ubtuntu 10.10, 1.3.13 (Unicode) for Windows runs fine with the WINE available in Synaptic. 1.3.14 installs but...

Re: random static while recording

I have the right type of cable to send it straight from my stereo amp into the line-input. Do I need one of those USB pre-amps if I'm not using it for USB? If you have an amp with a phono input for the turntable and a headphones out or line/tape/aux out, then no, you don't need the ART phono... ass...

Re: Program GUI won't launch

I think I just figured out the problem. I had installed a Logitech webcam software and driver after my last successful Audacity session (1.2.6). I uninstalled the Logitech software and Audacity (1.3.14) seems to work fine now. I would really like to be able to use my webcam, so here is the link to ...

Re: 1.3.14 hardware requirement

This delay I get even without using audacity. I just set my soundcard (realtek) to use the input (line-in) as source for the output (the only way, it seems, to monitor what I'm playing). Then everything still is delayed by a split second. You mean the "Listen to this device" feature, I as...

Thanks, Bill. Typing curly quotes on Windows needs ALT+0147 and ALT+0148: http://desktoppub.about.com/cs/finetypography/ht/curly_quotes.htm Those typed quotes seems to be preserved OK in projects and exports on Windows 7. How about Bill if you go to the above link and select/copy a curly quote on th...
