Re: Computer locks up with Audacity 2.0
Hit play button and... had to forcibly reset the pc. Whenever this happens it is almost certainly a problem with drivers - probably those for your sound device. See Updating Sound Device Drivers - if you need help, please tell us what sound device you are using. If updating sound device drivers doe...

Re: Upgrading to 2.0
It's probably best to uninstall Audacity 1.3.x beta first so as to avoid complications with file associations. If there are existing Audacity 1.3.x associations with audio files, associations for 2.0 won't be creatable with "Open with" whether you uninstall 1.3.x or leave it in situ unles...

Re: Contrast Analysis not Working
The Contrast tool only works on mono tracks. I'm unsure if the tool was ever intended to work on stereo tracks. Previously, Contrast measured the bottom track in the project irrespective of which track was selected. If you only had one stereo track, Contrast would just analyse the bottom (right) ch...

Re: Error in text entry for track labelling
This is an error report not a help request. Please advise if this is not the right place to post it. I'm splitting up a recording of our band. I add labels at the start of each event (Ctrl B). After the first successful occasion of using the word 'Crack' subsequently trying to enter the letter 'k' ...

Re: BSOD with Audacity 2
BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH :( I am running Windows XP with service pack 3 Audacity 1.2.6 runs with no problems. However with Audacity 2.0.0 any attempt to record an incoming signal results in BSOD. (I installed it from the .exe installer ) I had exactly this problem with the 1.3 beta version last May and...

Re: (soft) file associations lost
I am sure the others here are using your (the correct) technique, but are both your Audacity executables for 1.3.14 and 2.0 named the same? Yes, they are. Both installs are totally "vanilla", taking all the default values as set by the installer software. I suspect the difference is that ...

Re: (soft) file associations lost
Certainly adding Audacity to "Open with" for an audio file type works fine on a computer that has never had Audacity installed. It also works on a Win 7 PC that currently has both 1.3.14 beta and 2.0 installed - mine! The problem you have in this thread comes if you have had other instanc...

Re: (soft) file associations lost
No need to run CCleaner or anything. Gale's solution is simple and works. Just change the filename eg to audacity2.exe and the association then works without a hitch. I'm no expert, but: in that case what would one expect the state of the system to be after the *next* upgrade? The next upgrade inst...

Re: install vers. 2.0
I have Audacity 1.2.6 and 1.3 beta on my Windows 7 (64bit) computer. Should I remove these two programmes before installing vers 2.0? (the .exe installer). Use the uninstall programs feature in the Windows control panel. 2.0.0 replaces all previous versions, so the general recommendation would be t...

Re: Can't control input volume cassette into mic jack
I split this out from a topic about recording from a USB turntable as the cause of the problem is different. Microphone ports are usually mono and are meant for quiet signals from a microphone which the mic port then amplifies strongly. You want to connect to the blue line-in port, or see if there i...
