Re: Audacity 2.x - More Resource Intensive?
If I use 1.2.6 to create 44k/16bit WAV files, or use 2.x to make the same files, can I assume that the files "recorded" and exported from either version will be of identical quality? For 16 bit, yes. For 24 bit Audacity 2.x is better due to a minor bug in older versions of Audacity. What ...

Re: Audacity 2.x - More Resource Intensive?
That audio cache really seems to (knock wood) be doing the trick here. Will it simply be gone in the next release? Or just taking care of itself automatically? It will be completely disabled I'm afraid. There are too many crashes with it - as you saw - unless you use it only for recording and/or se...

You might want to be quick as Windows 8 is due out within the next 12 months. Windows 8 is due out on October 26th (2012). We may b...

Audacity Fade effects
[Moderator note: topic split from http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic.php?p=187171#p187171] 1) Is "Pro Fade Out" sufficiently better than a linear fade to warrant a place in the standard Audacity distribution? 2) Is fading out music a sufficiently common task for Pro Fade Out to warra...

Re: Adjusting input volume for USB turntable
USB can still be noisy, but hiss and hum rather than the electro-mechanical noise the built-in sound device can pick up. That statement implies that USB can add noise, just like analogue can. Any noise coming from the USB device is being generated "upstream" of the USB socket. A USB signa...

Re: Multitap delay
I agree that this is not a mainstream effect for Audacity, but I think a good one for the wiki. Yes. I hope if gets there after discussion. I think the shipped delay will be preferable for novices as there is no absolute need there to select extra audio. Which also has the downside that it will usu...

Re: Professional sounding fade out.
I still think that we need a "partial fade" effect. Totally agree. But we also lack a multi-point text envelope (despite claiming to be an accessible app) and lack Cross-Fade, and we can't have endless multiple effects that do similar things to different degrees of complexity. If you are ...

If you attached the mic after launching Audacity, use Transport > Rescan Audio Devices.
