Re: changing ouput level
How are you "downloading" from YouTube to the tablet? What stops you downloading the actual YouTube file (therefore "as is" with no volume changes) to the computer that runs Audacity? You can search Google for how to download YouTube videos. It is not a good idea to convert to MP...

Re: "No targets specified and no makefile found" on make
These steps usually "just work" on Ubuntu:

Can you uncomment the line in configure (say what the change was) then give the configure error?
What is the media you are tying to write to?

Re: Professional sounding fade out.
To be most understandable, perhaps you want the name to give some indication of what it "sounds" like? Or (less good), what it is "shaped" like? Or something like "Eq Power for Cross-Fade"? The fade shape is not really ideal for cross-fades because the "narrow end...

Re: Professional sounding fade out.
You gave this as an example of a logarithmic fade which was really exponential:

But I think we know that it is possible to make a curve like that fade to absolute silence if the final control point is well before the end?

Re: Audio Quality Drops With Another Program Open
In your position, I would still reinstall Windows. Sony Vegas and ArcSoft ShowBiz appear to be video editors. What are you doing in those programs - for example are you trying to play part of a video and record that? If you are processing video edits while recording, this is very resource intensive ...

Re: need to remove silence at end via script
"Truncate Silence" is the obvious choice, though note that if there are silences within the part that you want to keep, they may also be truncated. If this is a problem, then you will need a different solution. Are the valid silences inside the audio going to be shorter than the noise and...

It sound like you have solved the problem. Well done
Since most of this was nothing to do with FFmpeg I split the posts about selecting audio to a new topic.

Also make sure an effect in the web cam or somewhere else is not adding echo:

Aside from other problems, this suggests you have enabled Transport > Sound Activated Recording by mistake. Uncheck that.songs1writer wrote:the pause button keeps jumping

Re: Very Confused Newbie
Ok, I see that I should have made an .aup file but I don't understand how to take those .au files now and turn them in to an .aup file. Sorry for being such a slow learner. Are you sure you did not save an Audacity project? Look at File > Recent Files and click on the .aup file. Or search your comp...
