This plugin runs uber slow in Audacity 2.0.2. Chriss Capel's compressor runs at least 10 times faster, and I'm not exagerating. Any idea why? That's strange. I think the more generally applicable you can make your solution, the more chance the Audacity developers would be interested.

Have you looked at other open source media programs to see what solutions they have adopted?

Another trick that often works is File > Exit (which is active in your first screenshot). This will probably ask you to save changes and avoids having to force quit. But make a copy of the temp folder first, as Steve says.
