Re: No play through from USB turntable to ext. speakers
Yes if you unplugged the turntable from the computer, you cannot record from it. The idea was just to make sure the presence of the turntable was not somehow preventing Audacity playing audio to the built-in output (which should not happen). Gale, I forgot one last bit of information. With the "...

Re: Cassette to CD - files very quiet
MP3 files are lossy. When you export MP3 files they do not preserve the volume accurately unless the software intervenes to attempt some adjustment, but the differences should be barely audible. The only thing that should affect the volume on export is the -....+ gain slider on the Track Control Pan...

Re: Lost all playback sound??
Please tell us what what version of Windows you are on. If you are on Vista, 7 or 8, have you checked the Volume Mixer as I suggested ?
Does it help if you change Audacity playback device to Speakers and take your headphones out?

Re: Shifting all labels to the right
I need to move all labels in a label track to the right by 1m2.829s. I can easily do this sort of thing in an audio track by inserting silence. The only way I can see to do it for a label track is to select the whole track (Home, shift+End) then cut it (control+X), select the 1m2.829s position in t...

Re: Using Audacity As A Benchmark
So I work for a computer hardware review website and I'd like to use Audacity as a benchmark in future reviews. The issue that I am having is finding a task in Audacity that would be limited by the performance of the CPU, rather than by memory size or I/O bandwidth of the system. Resampling? Change...

Re: Recording time up to 1 second
Where are you seeing a recording time of one second? Recording time is limited only by disk space, except you cannot save very long recordings as Audacity projects (for example, you cannot save over 13.5 hours at 44100 Hz project rate). See http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Recording_length . If you...

Re: Lengthy effects menu
I also seem to remember a discussion re. allowing a configurable preference to allow the user to choose between the "classic" linear long-list menu or a tiered menu. Yes, that is the specific minimum required to bring it back. But note that there is no way under the previous implementatio...

Re: 2 instances of audacity simultaniously
On Windows you should never see "already running" even if it is already running, unless you are trying to launch Audacity 1.2. In other words, if you were running the current Audacity 2.0.2, and you execute 1.3.12, another window in 2.0.2 opens. What three numbers do you see for Audacity w...

Re: No play through from USB turntable to ext. speakers
LineIn is a zip file if you downloaded it from the link I gave. So find where your downloads are saved, then double-click the zip and the contents should be extracted to the current folder you are in. Then I would suggest moving the extracted LineIn app (not the zip) to your Applications folder and ...

Re: Nyquist Noise Gate refuses to install on Mac[SOLVED]
I think i got it to work now after calling a friend for help. It required opening TextEdit, pasting the code into the new document, clicking "make plain text document" in the format menu, saving it to my desktop, closing it, right-clicking/contro-clicking the icon for it on my desktop and...
