Re: Please provide us a build of Audacity without MP3
Just to clarify, Audacity's MP3 decoding ability comes from libmad http://www.underbit.com/products/mad/ (GPL v2). MP3 patents have always been alleged to apply to decoding as well as encoding: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MP3#Licensing_and_patent_issues . However Thomson/Fraunhofer et al do not pur...

Re: Autotalent by Tom Baran
Just to post that another port of Autotalent was made, this time for LV2 format and adding MIDI support and other tweaks: http://code.google.com/p/talentledhack/ . This is only of limited current use in Audacity because Audacity doesn't support MIDI input and LV2 support is unfinished (the experimen...

Re: Timed Recording Failed?
Was the computer sleeping when the Timer Recording was supposed to start?
If not, did you have Transport > Sound Activated Recording on, which might stop it starting to record?

Re: Audio/Video Transcription Software
[...]the main problem is that Audacity can't be controlled from within an external program. The enabling of global keystrokes would solve a lot of issues connected to transcription and other tasks that involve remote playback and recording. I vaguely seem to remember that global shortcuts were alre...

Re: Audacity is super slow
Actually, I found a simpler solution. I upgraded from Windows 7 32-bit (where Audacity worked fine) to Windows 8 64-bit , where I experienced the gut-wrenching slowness described above. I found that configuring Audacity to run in compatibility mode fixed the problem. thanks for this Thanks - jshare...

Re: Audacity Won't Launch/Open
[...]whenever i try opening audacity, No icon appears on my task bar, no loading mouse appears, it appears as a process in task manager, but nothing comes to be. It as well creates a new cfg and places it in the file with the New one I had put in. It can't do that unless you have the .cfg file you ...

Re: Distorted recording of lecture.
If you are connecting from line-out of the player you cannot normally control the level of the audio that is sent. If you connect to the headphones out, the volume knob on the player will affect the level sent to the computer. If you cannot buy a recording device that has a line-in, monitor the reco...

Re: Distorted recording of lecture.
Exactly. That's the problem. The recordings would probably be unusable unless you recorded at the minimum possible input level.buzzamos wrote:One end was plugged into the line-out of the cassette player and the other into the mic port of the desktop.
