Re: Need assistance with recording multiple inputs
I've just been trying it on a Vista machine with Realtek HD Audio. Skype would only work when set to record from the microphone. Audacity could record the local microphone when set to record from the microphone input. The Sounds settings did not have an option to "listen to this device". ...

Re: Audacity 2.0.4 Release Candidate 1 (zip and installer)
I've shortly looked into the new version (on Windows 7, 64 bit, Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio) WASAPI seems to perform better now. The recording level adjustment has been improved. In overdub mode, a 0 dB original track is recorded at -0.1 dB, whereas, with Windows Direct Sound, the level is -0.8...

Re: unable to highlight portion to be deleted
As per http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/faq_editing.html#snap , you may need to uncheck Snap To in Selection Toolbar to make very small selections of less than a second. For any selection, you have to press the yellow Stop button before you can edit: http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/faq_edit...

Re: Crash of 2.0.3 upon launch in Win XP
There is a FAQ here http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/fa ... tml#reboot that gives a link to "Whocrashed" which is a program that might figure out from the dump where the problem is.tucboy85 wrote:Windows mini-dump files could be retrieved, but I don't know what to do with them.

Re: Need assistance with recording multiple inputs
There are numerous people that have claimed to be able to do it, but when asked "how", they mysteriously disappear. Audacity can only record from one "device" at a time, so to be able to directly record Skype and your microphone simultaneously you need to have both of them playi...

Re: New plug-in effect - PopMute
I guess the sentence in blue is for "Look Ahead"? In practice the best settings depend on may factors, but if there is a short loud "click" during a very quiet part of a recording (for example when "cleaning" clicks from the gap between tracks from a vinyl recording) t...

Re: change dither to none? in quality settings?
You mention specifically for non-compressed eg. WAV, can you please tell me what happens with FLAC, how does FLAC import/export? FLAC like other lossless formats has its export bit depth set by the export choice. The Default Sample Format in Quality Preferences plays no part . Import of FLAC (using...

Re: vst effects plugins management
2.0.4 (release candidate test version is here ) will have a new dialogue where you can select the VST plug-ins to load. The dialogue appears the first time you use Audacity, or if you reset preferences, or if you request a VST rescan in Effects Preferences and restart Audacity. So there is no need t...

Re: New plug-in effect - PopMute
So do you think that this extra feature (and accompanying changes to the help screen) are worth adding to the version on the wiki? I don't think it will be heavily used but it would have been a time saver in the use case given. Sounds (such as 'pops') that have a peak level above the 'Threshold' le...
