This sounds like Audacity cannot read its temporary folder. Edit > Preferences, choose "Directories" on the left. Change the location of the temporary folder to a drive that is working and a folder that you have permission to write to. If the problem persists, import the file, choose Help ...

If the message says that it cannot find the _data folder for the project, you'll need to put the _data folder back in the same folder that the AUP file is in.

I would guess you have too many Audio Unit plug-ins on your system for Audacity to start properly, with the result that it "hangs". This should be fixed if we commit the code in that "12571-plus" version. That code to defer load of Audio Units until you request them from the Eff...

I did suggest what you could do in 2.0.4 (reselect the input you want in Device Toolbar) and suggested you tried 2.0.5-alpha (which may have fixed the problem - it would have been helpful to know). Was this recording at a high sample rate such as 96000 Hz?
