Re: mp4a (from iTunes) to mp3
Have you installed the optional FFmpeg library? This is necessary if you want to import any kind of video file into Audacity or to import an AAC audio file that may have MP4 or M4A extension. Here are the instructions to install FFmpeg: http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/faq_installation_and_plug_...

Re: Keep losing ability to import m4a/mpeg-4 files
I have Audacity 2.0.5 running on Windows 7. Thanks for the exact information. Have downloaded the LAME/FFmpeg library several times and activated the application, and normally have no problems importing mpeg-4 or m4a files - except periodically, like today, when suddenly Audacity won't recognize th...

Re: Audacity 2.0.5 edit save question
When you save an Audacity project, the current state of the project is saved. The "undo history" is not saved and there is no record saved of what has been done prior to the save. Just to be clear, Steve is answering your specific case of closing the project (whence the Undo History is di...

Re: Playback degrades in quality over time
Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately it crackles just as much when I play it on other programmes. I tried iTunes and VLC player. Then it seems to be a recording problem not an Audacity problem. Why do you need to set the headset up as an aggregate device? Are you recording from two headsets at once?...

Re: FFmpeg n'est pas compilé
Sorry I do not speak French. Ask Ubuntu. They make their Audacity packages and decide what version of FFmpeg to link to, not us. If you build Audacity from source code it links to system FFmpeg on Ubuntu 13.10. Or uninstall Audacity that you obtained from the repository and install the PPA build of ...

Re: Backwards Compatability
I just got a new computer (Windows 8) and Audacity no longer reads my amplifier as a microphone. I can't use the software, anymore for what I was doing. Please explain exactly what you are trying to do then we can try to help you. Are you trying to record a song that is playing on the computer? Gale

Re: Backwards Compatability
I've read the tutorials but they're written for people with a lot more technical knowledge than I have Actually, we expend great effort to make the Manual as easy as it can be. Unfortunately the developers will not accept using a lot of words for a button or slider that has a known audio engineerin...

Re: A more accessible way to set up latency correction
The next best thing would be if Audacity automatically knew how much round trip latency there would be, then Audacity could automatically adjust for it. The PortAudio library we use does of course have a simplistic feature that tries to do that. It works fairly well with MME host in Device Toolbar ...

Re: Unzipping Help file
Hello All Audacity Folks, I thought I knew my way around PCs, having struggled with MS OS since MS-DOS. Loved XP, never crashed once. I am using the Win 7 64 bit Home Premium OS. I have read the FAQ. I can not, for the life of me, unzip and be able to access the full Help manual on my sled. I tried...
