Re: Improved "leveling" for speech

OK then I should have saved RSI and done "Heavy" once in Leveler. If I invert the result of "Heavy" against three "Lights" I agree I get silence. ;) The Manual has no information about it but I thought that three "Lights" might give me something a bit less tha...

Re: Downgraded back to 2.0.3, because playback on 2.0.5 crac

For what it's worth, I had the identical experience and got resolution in the same way: Reverting back to 2.0.3. [...] I had downloaded the (dmg?) file for my 2.0.5 install--as I had done with 2.0.3. But playback produced the dreaded crackling. When I replayed my 2.0.5 recordings in 2.0.3 (after re...

Re: Improved "leveling" for speech

I tried lower leveling rates. At 50% the abrupt volume changes within the same voice seemed even more noticeable. At 10% - 20% yes I guess it was effective in "leveling" the differences between the voices without distortion but it still reduced "leveling" within each voice and ma...

Re: Improved "leveling" for speech

I think the second snippet where the current Leveler processes the sound is quite like what we want - except for the distortion. You mean the one with the loud distorted voice and the other quieter voice? I thought that was exactly what we wanted to avoid! The leveler failed to "level" th...

Re: How do I best sync tracks with different, unknown tempo?

You can do it with the Change Tempo tool but you'd need a bit more precision than hundredths of seconds (wink at devs). Yes it accepts a greater precision but the measurement tools (seconds) also show only up to hundredths. Change Tempo is inaccurate due to limitations in the algorithm. If you want...

Re: Directory related question

Audacity seems not to be able to remember or know what directory you just opened the first track from. It defaults to whatever directory you last used and you have to manually select the directory that you wish to work from. Is there a way to make Audacity remember the directory that you just opene...

Re: Improved "leveling" for speech

I think the second snippet where the current Leveler processes the sound is quite like what we want - except for the distortion. In the third section of the clip it sounds to me like we made the softer voice much louder than the one that was previously too loud and that there is now a greater dynami...

I've added Koz's vote for Vectorscope to Wiki FR's so this thread can be archived when Peter is ready.

Re: Trouble with LAME v.3.99.3 Installation

I have tried all of the suggestions that you gave me and the LAME v3.99.3 file will not fully install. It goes about 1/3 of the way to installing and it abruptly stops. Be aware that you must be an administrator to install programs. Try right-click over the LAME installer and choose "Run as ad...

Re: Project Save didn't copy one wav file

..people used to trash their shows all the time by removing an external sound file that Audacity was standing on. Our joke was one good way to turn your show to rubble was to "clean up and organize" your music folder. Koz I'll bet! The path and file name in the current version's log file ...
