Look in Edit > Preferences: Directories. You must have permission to write to that directory and the drive must be functioning correctly or recordings will be silenced.

Re: Not Recording from Any Input [Possible Bad Windows Updat
A good test can be to make the offending device the default recording device in Windows Sound, then try recording it with Windows Sound Recorder. If that records silence then it isn't an Audacity problem. You can read details of the critical and important patches here: http://technet.microsoft.com/e...

Re: Wont copy on media center
I have a computer at church with windows XP, and am using Audacity 2.0.3. I record a sermon and save it as a wav file and put it in a folder, no problem. When I try to burn a CD with windows media player, I get an error saying it doesn't know the length of the file, recommends I play the file and t...

Re: Windows 8.1
When installing Plug-ins it doesn't respond and freezes making it unusable. I would appreciate any help on how to fix this. As Steve says you should try without adding plug-ins first, but if you reset Preferences Audacity will search for VST plug-ins to load and you will be asked to confirm install...

Re: Installing Audacity Lowered Speaker Volume
The Audacity output slider directly controls the system output slider. If you turned down the volume in Audacity you would turn it down for the system.
Try clicking the speaker icon by the system clock to adjust the computer's audio volume.

Re: Recording
This is nothing to do with feedback and reviews. Please take a look at the pink panel at the top of this page. What version of Windows or Mac? Is it a USB tape converter or a standalone tape deck? Make and model number? If it is a standalone, connect it to the blue line-in, not the pink mic port. If...

Re: Install and Use "Replaygain" in Audacity
What format are your files in - WAV ? I'm not clear what that command-line tool does. Is it saying that it stores the gain values in ID3 tags in WAV files? Do WAV players recognise those values? If you want that program, the package is usually called normalize-audio (at least on Ubuntu). Or you coul...

Re: Custom output directory for Exporting via Chain?
A custom directory is a feature request. I'll add your vote.
You can change it if you learn C++, change the code and recompile Audacity.

Re: How to use transport toolbar (advance/return) ?
I found this thread by searching for "scrubbing" and apologise if this isn't the most suitable place to make a humble request for including scrubbing. Especially (but not exclusively because) as a blind user, scrubbing is an extremely valuable feature. Ideally scrub speed could be varied ...
