Please read Tutorial - Recording Computer Playback on Windows - Audacity Manual . As described there, you can use the Windows WASAPI host in Audacity to record computer playback if nothing else works.

If I drag the draft.aup file onto Audacity 2.0.2 and export a WAV as my very first action (no playback, no track swapping, etc.), then the WAV does indeed exhibit crackle. Thanks.
