Re: Sample rate question
After a while I found that with all of the excellent free software available for Linux, I didn't need Windows at all. I still disagree that Linux provides as great a range of quality applications outside those provided by the distro of Linux that you are using, as I just posted elsewhere. Many thir...

Re: Recording with a microphone
Unlike Windows, installing Linux does not just give you a bare operating system, but includes programs for virtually every task. A typical desktop version of Linux will include a full office suite, web browser, e-mail, photo manager, picture editor, media player, pdf viewer, and a whole host of add...

Re: Recording with a microphone
There are other free options, such as installing a free (lightweight) Linux operating system instead. I don't know what that means, where I would get that, how to install it, or if/how I would be able to transfer all my files and programs. To give another example, http://lubuntu.net/ . You have to ...

Re: Sample rate question
I am using Windows XP (3G RAM) because this is the most stable windows that is still gentle on memory and processor requirements, which is an issue with this old laptop. So if I would need to switch to a newer windows version then I would have to buy a new laptop or PC. What is the processor speed?...

Re: Sample rate question
It may seem odd that high sample rates make things worse, but you may want to read http://people.xiph.org/~xiphmont/demo/neil-young.html that argues that case. It's about reproducing equipment not being able to handle ultrasonics, and about the risk of recording dropouts due to the much greater volu...

Re: Audacity keeps popping up.
Every once in a while the Audacity icon pops up on my desktop. Don't know why. Neither do we, from that description. Please try using more words. When does it happen? Are you using Audacity when it happens? Does the Mac switch to the Desktop when it happens? There is meant to be a "splash scre...

Re: Problems exporting and playing
I have a mac 10.6.8 Audacity 2.03 I suggest you upgrade to 2.0.5 from http://audacityteam.org/download/mac . 2.0.3 may have problems importing files if any have Unicode characters in their name. Using my camera, I made a video and audio recording of live musicians. I downloaded the file from the ca...

Re: Record a Video Conference
As with Skype, you want to use a video recording application that has its own built-in recordimg solution.
