Re: noise removal
Don't use such an extreme removal setting. Use the Preview button to test alternative settings, light settings first, then become more extreme. Try a very modest Noise Removal setting and increase "Sensitivity". See: http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/noise_removal.html . If you are stil...

Re: Records at high speed
The test tone was generated by the tone generator in Audacity "Test" "Tone". But if you recorded it the same way as you record the vinyl, why does the tone not record with dropouts? No, I was not aware that the Sound Blaster card was not to be used on Linux I know people who use...

Re: Audacity won't start on Ubuntu 13.04
It is a Microsoft LifeCam HD3000. It works fine with Linux, which is why it was a surprise to me that it was the root of the problem. Audacity opens in approximately 3.5 seconds now. Thanks, then it's the same camera family as the cam in defaria's report. But according to http://www.ideasonboard.or...

Where make puts the Audacity binary
I don't know if this changed after the Audacity changes to use autoconf, but when building Audacity on Ubuntu 13.10 using "make", the Audacity binary is now placed in src/ rather than in the root of the source tree as always used to be the case. So if you have not installed Audacity, you d...

Re: Can't get scripting to work on Lubuntu 13.10
The documentation says, and I quote: "Under GCC, move into the lib-src/mod-script-pipe directory and type "make". This will build the module and copy the ".so" to the modules directory." The implication is that everything is ready to roll. I have clarified the Manual f...

Re: Records at high speed
Running Linux Mint 15 with Audacity 2.03-1. A 100 second recording plays back in 43.5 seconds. In addition to the pitch being far too high, the recording appears to be full of holes or dropouts. The 440 hz test tone records and plays back properly So you now believe the pitch is correct, and the wa...

Re: Audacity won't start on Ubuntu 13.04
Steve, unplugging my cam while machine is off then restarting solved this problem for me. Thank you for that suggestion. Mine was at 4:20 to start up as well and was driving me batty. Now this awesome program is usable again to me. I run Linux Mint 17 RC Cinnamon 32bit. What is the make and model n...

Re: Odd Popping Sound from Mic That I'm Trying to Mitigate
Doesn't Audacity write to the hard drive about every two seconds? You would have to be recording at a high sample rate (176400 Hz or a near neighbour) to write that frequently. But if you are recording at a high sample rate, noise being picked up when writing to disk is a very likely explanation, e...
Re: recording
windows 7 audacity 2.0.5 .exe installler... When recording from my ION cassette to mp3 device, instead of recrding the tape it records from the computer mic. It's a acer aspire 5734z-4836 lap top. This will be because you have not opened Device Toolbar and set the recording (input device) to the US...

Have you read http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/tutorial_vocal_removal_and_isolation.html or tried a Vocal Removal plug-in ( http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Vocal_Removal_Plug-ins ) ? Sometimes you just can't remove the vocal. See if you can buy a karaoke version of the song online instead. Gale
