It is not mono. It is stereo, and left and right appear different.

The volume is only a little too low. Do you want to remove the dynamic range so that it just sounds universally loud?

I suggest you post an audio sample and tell us what you think is wrong with it now.

To what location are trying to save or export? Is there a permissions problem or physical problem with that location? You cannot write to the DMG file that you installed Audacity from. Please see Installation: Do NOT run Audacity from the DMG!!!!.
