Re: Can't start recording
Past machine resource problems, Overdubbing is a primary cause of audio that starts before zero. That's how Audacity compensates for Recording Latency and it does it as long as that Recording selection is checked. If you de-selected it, you may need to restart Audacity for the setting to take effec...

Re: Change Speed - Stretch audio to a specified length
FWIW I tested that on Mac - Audacity doesn't recognise Nyquist plug-ins in there.steve wrote:On Linux, Nyquist plug-ins can be installed in "~/.audacity-files/plug-ins" which avoids permission problems (and is the most "Linux-like" way to do it).

Re: Audio clipping when recording from SPDIF
all the stuff about Windows and how it messes with the audio before it gets to Audacity is difficult to understand. Maybe a future article in the Wiki might cover this? Most of the information is on Wiki or in the Manual but it is rather scattered between articles. Vista introduced a new Windows au...

Re: Modulation/distortion on my mic
You can always try tweaking audio settings or try a different USB cable or USB port. What version of Windows? Settings are more complex on Vista and later than XP. Choosing Windows DirectSound host in Audacity, set the project rate bottom left of Audacity then enable Exclusive Mode in Windows Sound ...

Re: Random, unintentional, subtle changes in pitch
I swapped up to the Retina from a MacBook Pro this Spring, and ran into some trouble with my setup, as I mentioned. A majority of plugins crash the program now, but I really can't complain, my lonely user install has worked very well for several years; there were some plugins I couldn't try, since ...

Re: Random, unintentional, subtle changes in pitch
Continuing backwards: I'm running the Core Audio bus to headphones or a bluetooth speaker. Does the pitch warp occur only when you select the bluetooth speaker in Audacity or make it default system sound output (which would then affect iTunes and most other applications)? The issue with Apple's AU'...

Let us know what happens if you turn the mic boost "on". You may find though that the whine and mic / computer noise will also increase substantially.kozikowski wrote:You should plug that up again and go looking for that boost setting.

Re: Audio clipping when recording from SPDIF
As suggested I downloaded the latest alpha and it has an extra option in the first box "WDM-KS". I've no idea what that means It's a Windows interface between applications (such as Audacity) and the sound card driver, a successor to MME and Windows DirectSound. WDM-KS bypasses kernel mixi...

Re: Random, unintentional, subtle changes in pitch
As far as Audacity is concerned you should be able to run Audacity from anywhere on the hard drive, but don't drag Audacity.app out of its "Audacity" folder. It's possible Apple's AU effects are confused by your putting Audacity in the user Applications folder. What do you mean exactly by ...
