Re: LAME 3.99.3 vs. 3.99.5
It's perfectly possible to load a valid later version of lame_enc.dll and ignore the registry setting created by the LAME 3.99.3 installer: sshot-1.png However it only works if the lame_enc.dll or libmp3lame.dll you obtained has the "symbols" built in that Audacity requires. Most of them t...

Re: Need Help With Sound Problem
Looking at one of the mp3's that only shows 1 track window, rather than 2 - I don't understand if it is mono, why does it show it playing on both left and right channels? This song was recorded at the same time as other songs that show in Audacity with 2 track windows. Appreciate any explanation. T...

Re: Name this forum!
I don't see why the podcasting and making music groups are not equally a "community forum". They are, but so far we have not had anyone posting generic Audacity support questions in those forums, so I don't think that point requires emphasis. If users are posting unrelated help questions ...

Re: Copy-paste from one project to an other
there is a patch for the problem you can test: http://bugzilla.audacityteam.org/show_bug.cgi?id=202 . I just saw that there is a 2.0.6 version. I will try it :-) If you merely compile the 2.0.6 source tarball, or install the latest PPA source code package (currently the same code as the 2.0.6 tarba...

Re: Input devices
Am using the new 2.0.6 version. iMic is recognised by Win8. Connection is from a Sony Walkman but now stuck. I am not a computer genius but not a nerd. Can you explain in words (non-technical) of one syllable exactly how to start transferring my audio cassette into Audacity? We can't help you unles...

Re: LAME 3.99.3 vs. 3.99.5
The "MP3 Library Version" continued to show 3.99.3, regardless of which lame_enc.dll was being used. My guess is that Audacity is still using 3.99.3, even though you "told it" to use the other one. (Audacity "tries" to load a version that works). If you look in Help > ...

Re: 2.0.6 Installation Errors
7:04:30 AM: Error: Failed to find compatible FFmpeg libraries. Should these files be part of the installation package? No, because Audacity cannot distribute those due to licensing issues. FFmpeg lets you import and export additional audio formats in Audacity. If you require FFmpeg, please visit Ho...

Re: Audacity Crashing on ALAC export
The crashes are a known bug on Mac if there is anything wrong with the path or command syntax. However it works fine if you follow http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/tutorial_exporting_to_itunes.html#alac . In other words, you have to find and download an "ffmpeg binary for Mac" (Google ...

Re: Audacity 2.0.6 Released
If I go to http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Release_Notes_2.0.6, it says “(Windows) "Windows WDM-KS" host is currently the least compatible of the four hosts, and may produce "error opening sound device" on some machines or have other quirks (such as some inputs not being avail...

Re: FFmpeg download Catch-22
Are you sure this is only with VS2012, Ed? I have seen this on VS 2008 and Martyn Shaw has seen it (I don't know if he is still on VS 2008). A developer would add FFmpeg using audacity.cfg if he/she could not bypass the assert. A user of release builds gets told that FFmpeg was configured successful...
