You cannot surgically remove components of the track that went into the mix unless you have the separate parts. I am shocked that your teachers should be so ill informed.

Re: PortAudio error after upgrading to 2.0.6
The Host will be blank if you have no detected recording or playback devices. I don't think PortAudio was updated between 2.0.5 and 2.0.6. Did you ever have 2.0.5? Click the Windows globe, click All Programs, click Accessories and then click Run. In the Open box, type: dxdiag When all the informatio...

Re: location of .au files
All of a sudden my .au files all appear in the same folder alongside my .aup file instead of being in their own projectname_data folder. I wonder why, and how I can correct this. Move the AU's back in the _data folder, but leave the AUP file outside the _data folder. Audacity won't see the AU files...

Re: FFmpeg download Catch-22
So there are two issues using VS2012 in 2.0.7-alpha, as I understand it. 1 The release build crashes before the app window appears: http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=81447 . 2 The debug build asserts with an FFmpeg-related error "Can't load symbol from unloaded library&quo...

Re: Recording with no sound?

Re: Latest Audacity for iMac
The Mac version I'm running is 2.0.5 and I'm running on home electricity not a battery. The amount of audio I record is minutes (short VOs) and not hours. Hope this helps. Thanks! Are you seeing the spinning beach ball when the delays occur? Note that on OS X and Linux, Nyquist effects (most of the...

Re: Importing Files and Quality
With your first statement, I'm still not certain that the import part is true, because the Audacity Wiki has a quote that says "If you import an MP3 into Audacity, edit it then export it as an MP3, you are thus losing quality twice - once in the original MP3 encoding of the imported audio, the...

Re: Importing Files and Quality
I was typing the same time as Robert so I'll just post the extra detail in case you want it. I've read that when you import an MP3 file into Audacity, there will be quality loss in reencoding. However, does that affect the original file, or the soundtrack in the project? When you import an MP3 Audac...

Re: 2.0.6 Installation Errors with FFmpeg [SOLVED]
Thank you both for the FF fix. Although I don't use the program very often, it has been very handy when I did need some of the options available. I probably will never use the FF options, but I just don't like seeing error messages no matter what the cause. I understand it's potentially confusing i...
