Re: data loss when re-editing 16bit audio

I'm recording audio from LPs. The Audacity docs suggest archiving audio using "32-bit Float" wav. They suggest recording in 32-bit float, and exporting as 16-bit. If they suggest exporting as 32-bit, please give the exact URL and we'll correct it. Besides the fact that the 32-bit wav file...

Re: Audacity doesn't recover the last project after crash

I had a problem and I can't find to run Audacity normally anymore. Audacity crashed when I added a sound piece from another project (a not saved project) pasting it from the clipboard. It closed and when I tried to open it again Audacity offered me to recover both projects. But it didn't work. Auda...

Re: "Show Clipping" Options

if you QA folks can decide on a specification My vote is that a red warning line should be shown whenever a sample touches or exceeds 0 dB. 0 dB is an absolute limit for integer format audio and I disagree with putting off the warning until there is obvious damage. Warnings are intended to "wa...

Re: "Show Clipping" Options

I was not happy with the description in the manual, so I have updated it: Click this menu item to turn display of clipped samples on and off - a check mark in the item indicates that display is turned on. A clipped sample is one that is outside the volume envelope defined by +1.0 to - 1.0 (this is ...

Re: need to import metadata from .wav files

If you would like to attach a file, please see http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic.php?f=49&t=64936 . I've now built Audacity 2.0.7-alpha on Ubuntu 13.10 with the local libsndfile 1.0.24 it ships with. I can confirm that import and export of all seven standard LIST INFO tags (the fields list...

Re: Emphasis consistency and headers

I agree Help > Audacity should not be made to look like a link. It could possibly be bolded. The blue background I had in mind was lighter, bluer and brighter (not part of the Forum style). However if the background can be changed on its own, I think even the blue Ed shows is an improvement. I was u...

Re: First second of voice recording is scratchy

For some reason the first second is full of static - and then it goes away. Are you recording multiple tracks? If there is a track above that does not start at time zero, try drag-selecting from time zero up to the start of the track and Generate > Silence. If that works, it is a playback problem a...

Re: The problem, when applying "High pass filter"

Were you entering a High Pass frequency above 20000 Hz? That value would be outside the slider range and would cause the effect to reset frequency to default the next time you open it. There is no sense in value "0", if you are applying "change speed". I've been arguing that case...
