Re: reset Preferences CFG file
I think the Load/Save should be kept out of the proposal for now, which is complex enough when you get down to the details. I would feel it much cleaner to force restart of Audacity if you Reset Preferences within Audacity. Are you sure Ed, you have covered everything in Prefs that requires restart,...

Re: reset Preferences CFG file
It makes resetting easier, it doesn't eliminate all the problems. I agree, because you may not be able to launch Audacity. "I reinstalled Audacity but the problem continued." People already know how to reset Audacity. Well some do, but I think many wrongly assume that reinstalling will re...

Re: revisiting automating Noise Reduction
Aside from the undiscoverability/unexpectedness that CTRL + R after taking the profile applies the effect, is there any reason not to make the Noise R... dialogue modeless? I would argue that after first capturing a new profile, "Repeat Noise Removal" should say "Apply Noise Removal&q...

Re: "Show Clipping" Options
I would quite strongly prefer "Label <what we're labelling>" myself. but then the majority of Analyze tools will be listed as "Label <something>" whether that be beats, envelopes, sounds, silences, zero crossings, clipping, regular intervals, or whatever, which makes it harder t...

Re: Exploring the new experimental Noise Reduction Effect
The purpose of this effect has always been to reduce noise of a steady sort. Primary purpose, maybe, but it did used to offer some benefit on repetitive short bursts (quite typical of noise on records). If that does not work so well in the new effect then that's a disbenefit IMO, but perhaps we sho...

Re: Bug: 'Mute all' affects all types
+1 for "Mute" only affects (and exists on) tracks which produce audio. +1 for menu>"Mute all tracks" muting every track which produces audio, depressing their buttons, ignoring any track which is already muted and any track which does not produce audio (this would not be a "...

Re: Bug: 'Mute all' affects all types
I may change my mind without explanation or forewarning, and frequently do Well, it can sometimes make processes easier and more efficient if we all try to think our positions through the first time. Politicians don't do that either, but then you aren't one of those. :D does the "Mute" bu...

Re: First 6 seconds of audio get chopped up when mixing
I recently switched to using Audacity on Mac and when mixing a session of about 7 tracks, the render is complete but with the first 6 seconds of the mix being distorted and chopped up. There seems to be no base/stereo line and the sound becomes clipped. then after 6 seconds the rest of the track is...
Re: recording
I am not a computer person, so how do you go about finding a mic or soundcard in Windows --- assuming there is one You have to enable the mic and and any other other devices that the sound card has in the Windows sound control panels. It would have helped us if you had stated your version of Audaci...

Re: Looking for advice on ripping old rave tapes
The left and right channels aren't very even http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n179/Lozizetec/recording/2AE55101-CD2A-4C0F-A656-0E6785E3D5BF_zpsknitkgjd.jpg Does that look ok to you? Try Effect > Normalize to make it a bit louder (a peak of -1 dB or -2 dB is good). To make the channels the same pe...
