Re: Which Interface: MME, Windows DirectSound or WASAPI?
WDM-KS falls over in the dust most times on my on-board Realtek card. That is not my experience or Robert2's, as far as I know. "Falls over in the dust" is not a useful bug report. I suggest you repost details to the -quality list, bearing in mind that WDM-KS lets applications take exclus...

Re: reset Preferences CFG file
@Ed, I have not seen a new "single button" patch that deletes audacity.cfg, so I propose to try your patch "as is" on Mac later on today. +1 RSVP Got round to that now. I built the patch on Mavericks and made the same tests that I did on Windows. It works as you intend. I assume...

Re: playback problems in Audacity 2.0.x
Think I found the problem...disk error! I did a quick sweep of all my disks with DiskUtility, and found the 3 TB disk I had my problem program on was riddled with errors! Thanks, Mike. Glad it seems to be fixed. So was that an external disk? I would expect Mac to repair any faults on the system dri...

Re: Which Interface: MME, Windows DirectSound or WASAPI?
In Audacity, WASAPI is for recording what is playing on your computer (that's what the "loopback" means). I use it that way for recording what's playing on the computer - but it also works well recording from my external USB soundcard - it is now my standard host-of-choice. So when using ...

Re: Audacity Already Open Error
Open Applications/Utilities/Activity Monitor and make sure no Audacity applications are running. If Audacity is running, force quit it. Open Finder, choose Go > Go to Folder and type: ~/Library/Application Support/audacity/ Then open audacity.cfg. Select all the text and delete it. Then type the fol...

Re: Can't recover autosaved file
Yesterday I recorded a gig with Audacity. Once I was done I put my laptop on standby but opening this morning it had to reboot Why did it have to reboot? If Windows Update forced reboot on you, see Prevent Windows From Restarting Your PC After Windows Updates . Luckily Audacity notified me I could ...

For applications that can cut MP3's losslessly, see http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/MP3#re-encode.

Re: Which Interface: MME, Windows DirectSound or WASAPI?
Why not try recording through a nightly Alpha build ( http://gaclrecords.org.uk/win-nightly/ ) which has WDM+KS support with no latency? I have been using these builds for 2 months now. They work fine on my PC. Be aware there is a small risk that WDM-KS could freeze or crash your computer. It's mos...
Re: Yosemite
Tried again today with nothing else going on in the Mac and all was fine - in fact seamless, so I can report that Audacity does work in Yosemite (if you're careful). Well I don't really know. Generally, Mavericks often shows you the spinning beach ball for a second or two whatever app you're in, bu...

Re: Why does the selected area change to the entire timeline
Can you zoom in (COMMAND + 1) and select about 50 to 100 milliseconds of noise on the full tracks? Like a pause between sentences? 100 milliseconds would be better. This assumes you have 44100 Hz or higher project rate (bottom left). Gale But I assumed I would need six or seven seconds. I think I c...
