Re: Positive latency correction -- why would you want it?
If you append-record one track while overdub plays another track, then the latency correction is done AFTER recording stops. You can see what you just recorded jump left (if the setting is negative). That's a little weird Latency correction is always done after recording stops. I think what you not...

Re: Audacity Suddenly Stopped Saving File
The warning in red? There is a dot in your filename. OK? [Y/N] They still think it is OK because they put the dot there in the first place and thought it was "OK". The solution that I would suggest is, do away with all of the confusing warning and error messages - make the default as fool...

Re: Audacity Suddenly Stopped Saving File
Would a warning like this have helped? Hi Gale! You know me, always wanting to tinker with the grammar: Note that I have made the first two sentences ("…Yes…") into a single compound sentence so that there is no punctuation following the quoted filename. I think it makes it slightly less ...

Re: Audacity Suddenly Stopped Saving File
Isn't it the case that most times this error is a Smack The Head moment? Of course, How could I be so stupid? The filename has two dots in it. OK? [Y|N] I think we're too quick to include pages of explanation where a simple warning would work. Clearly the existing warning does not work. I know Vaug...

Re: Audacity Suddenly Stopped Saving File
If the file name has dots in it I think we must default to adding the standard extension for the file type, and provide an option for the small minority of users who want to use a different extension. Much as I don't like to encourage bad practice, that would save a lot of problems. A good case for...

Re: Focus on Audacity for speech transcription
Change focus (ALT + TAB) to Audacity when you want to use a command in Audacity I apologize for my insufficient explanation of my problem. Of course if I do ALT + TAB I get the focus on Audacity, but this is just the operation I want to avoid! Robert and I were saying what is possible now. If it is...

Re: Audacity Suddenly Stopped Saving File
I felt such a duh-moment come on when I read about the dot! Thank you! I had tried removing all of the commas and totally forgot the dot after Dr. That did the trick! Thank you so much! We get this problem a lot. Did you ignore the warning Audacity gave you, or not understand it? Would a warning li...

Re: Positive latency correction -- why would you want it?
I know someone who uses positive latency correction as "automatic silence insertion" for language learning. If you append-record one track while overdub plays another track, then the latency correction is done AFTER recording stops. You can see what you just recorded jump left (if the sett...

Re: Focus on Audacity for speech transcription
The idea is to use Audacity for the transcription by inserting labels during playback. I don't know exactly what procedure claudio.bonechi was using but he was already trying to use CTRL + M which would add an Audacity label at the playback position. If you use Audacity labels I do suggest you crea...

Re: Focus on Audacity for speech transcription
how do I get the focus on Audacity while I am writing in a Word file to make a transcription? A command like CTRL + M is read by Word and not by Audacity, so I can't change the position in a mp3 file being played by Audacity. Change focus (ALT + TAB) to Audacity when you want to use a command in Au...
