Which alpha version were you using before that was not slow?

I don't see any repeatable difference. Processing times can vary greatly depending on what other tasks your computer is doing at the time.

Importing MP4 files requires a different library than LAME so I started a new topic for you. LAME is only for writing MP3 files.
