Re: recording vocals from mixer

Ensure Transport > Software Playthrough is off (not ticked or checked) in Audacity. Given you are hearing the problem when Audacity is quit, you have probably enabled "Listen to this device" in Windows. Right-click over the speaker icon by the system clock, then choose "Recording Devi...

Re: Listing artists after I hit Multiple exports . . .

After I burn the CD and insert it into my CD player---the CD player says, "No artist" or something to that effect. How do I proceed to get the artist's name correctly entered into the Audacity software so that it shows on my CD player? You don't. Audacity is saving metadata to the exporte...

Re: Cannot record microphone through mixer

I get past export multiple and it tries to save metadata? I thought I would be looking for the audio and not the data file? Just click OK or Cancel to skip the metadata. Doesn't matter if I try WAV or MP3 if I cancel Metadata Edit then it tells me that the export is cancelled That's correct. If you...

Re: Filetype issue; Broadcast Wav, RF64 (ProTools and WavLab

How does Audacity deal with large file sizes in wrappers that may not necessarily support large file sizes? Has Audacity been programmed to cope with things outside the norm? No. If you import a RIFF WAV file into Audacity that is over 4 GB Audacity will truncate it, from what others have said (unl...

Re: please help 2---- how many files can i import

when i import 6000 file it stopp after 1000 nearly unless i have space in temp how can i import 6000 together ? Why would you import 6000 files? When you import a file, Audacity makes a lossless copy of the audio. If you import an MP3 file that is 1 MB, Audacity may take up 10 MB of space to make t...

Re: Help with editing video sound

I get the error message that says (paraphrased) "This is a video file. Audacity cannot currently open this type of file. You need to extract the audio to a supported format." Audacity does not edit video. You can install FFmpeg then let Audacity extract the audio from the video to its int...

Re: Can I improve this recording ?

I hear this problem on different computers. If they are all Windows computers then you need to check on all of them that you have turned all the sound effects off. Most built-in sound devices have effects turned on by default. What version of Windows? If it's Vista or later, right-click over the sp...

Re: Clicking black "split line" auto-merges. Turn off?

About moving the cursor within/between clips: When the cursor is in a track, TAB moves forward to next clip boundary, SHIFT-TAB moves back to previous clip boundary. If the cursor is inside a clip, SHIFT-TAB moves to the start of the clip (previous clip boundary). Another SHIFT-TAB moves to the sta...

Re: Clicking black "split line" auto-merges. Turn off?

I don't think I'm that unique ;) Nah, you're a power power user. ;) it's just "operator error" It's about as silly as having an overlapping OK and Cancel button IMO. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. It's clearly broken IMO. The most useful action should be default. It should not be so uni...

Re: Sound levels reset to zero after I press stop

Thanks - changing the temp directory fixed it. I had set it to a local HDD with lots of space, but for some reason that didn't work. Changing the temp directory to be on my C drive, an SSD, fixed it. I had wanted to avoid doing lots of writes to the SSD, but I guess it can't be avoided... Although ...
