I never get that when saving a project Waxy!
I get the dialog box with estimated remaining time when exporting a mix as wav or mp3, but never when saving a project the first time after recording. (I'm not sure about resaving after edits).

When you're selecting your sections to cut/copy/paste, you are probably not selecting a zero crossing point, which will instantly change the wave form at your edit points, causing the click you hear. You could zoom in enough to see exactly where the wav form crosses zero and make the start and stop ...

What's your input selection drop-down box set to? And the Recording portion of the Audio I/O tab in Preferences? One guess is that you're recording the Windows stereo mix - which will record every sound that windows makes - (just what you would hear on your computer speakers) instead of only the lin...

Are you sure Audacity crashes? Saving to an external drive, will often take a long time. The Audacity interface usually freezes when it's saving to a relatively "slow write" drive (such as an external or network drive). It has to copy all the raw audio files from its local temp location to the exter...

It's the nature of the beast. It's called latency, and all digital recording systems have it to some degree. If you want to hear what you actually recorded... there's no way around it.
