Re: Can edit and listen to music but not record?
In your picture of Windows, try right-clicking over empty space and if "Show Disabled Devices" is not checked (not ticked), click it to add a check mark then post another image. Also right-click over each device and choose "Enable" if you see that - I think those devices could be disabled as well a...

Re: Can edit and listen to music but not record?
"What input do you want to record from? Yourself speaking into an internal microphone?" That or what's playing right then through the speakers. "Do you have an external microphone that comes with a cable, or a cable that is connected to a pre-amplified signal such as from a record player? " Headset ...

Re: Can edit and listen to music but not record?
Speakers/output are sensed and presented correctly and all devices are enabled. They are not "fully" enabled - They are not available because (according to Windows) nothing is plugged in, so Windows is not making them available to Audacity. So you're saying the physical connection between record ja...

Re: Can edit and listen to music but not record?
Thanks for the reply. My question was really about Audacity. Shouldn't I be able to record, regardless of everything else. The Realtek Audio driver is up-to date. http://img62.imageshack.us/img62/7830/qbzg.jpg As you can see Audacity senses no input device although it is of course there. Speakers/ou...

Re: Normalizing several files at once
What's wrong with turning the volume down on the loudspeakers? Or listening on headphones? In Audacity, the playback volume and record volume should be independent of each other. Or are you recording via "Stereo Mix"? I can pull better answers than that out of my ass. If that's the best you can do ...

Normalizing several files at once
Hi, is there any way of normalizing (by which I understand giving all tracks the same perceived volume/loudness) several sound files in a directory using Audacity? I think this is possible file-for-file but I mean a batch of files at once. Before posting I searched for previous posts regarding this ...

Re: Montage/collage in several tracks
Yes Steve, Audacity was in "Sync Lock" mode all along and that was it. I wondered what the clock images were...but not enough to check out the manual... Koz - your example looks just like what I've been trying to do. I think I'll be able to do it now and I promise henceforth not to trouble you...

Re: Montage/collage in several tracks
Thanks Koz for your insightful, comprehensive and funny reply: "...department store workers suicidal." rofl...point well taken though. However, I don't intend to listen to this for long, such sounds/noises put me to sleep kinda quick like so I figure if I can get together two hours of ambience with ...

Montage/collage in several tracks
Hello, I would like to do a montage of different ambient sounds (i.e. rain, birdsong, distant thunder etc) from samples I have aquired (BBC). I would like to have the entire clip run for, say, two hours and be divided into four or five 'channels' such that the rain drizzles steadily throughout, the ...
