Re: File->Exit and File->Close do the same thing
PS Having restored sanity to the Close/Exit situation, I now find that the "X" in the upper right hand corner, which is used to "eXit" from a window, (i.e. to kill the Windows program running within it), now acts as a "Close File" command, not as an eXit at all! My expectations of a Windows program ...

Re: File->Exit and File->Close do the same thing
Thanks. This option has changed in 1.3.4, and now reads "Any Close/Exit command completely quits Audacity". It's checked by default, which is the wrong way round (IMHO). I'm not sure why anyone would want to have two distinct commands available, and then opt to have them both do the same thing after...

Re: Year field in metadata not saved with mp3 by export mult
I've been told off by "Koz" in another thread:- "I think we're all happy if the programmers can keep up with basic audio handling in the face of major Operating System changes and upgrades." It's clear that I'm being regarded as an ungrateful wretch, but I think it's important for software to be fri...

File->Exit and File->Close do the same thing
I should have expected File->Close to close the current project (with the option of saving it, if changed), but keep Audacity running.
As it is, there appears to be no difference between them, and File->Close could be removed.

Re: Can't use "/" in track names when exporting multiple
I suppose I was looking for the developers to create a lowest-common-denominator filename from the track labels I put in. Clearly, track labels from 1950s vinyl recordings weren't created with filename conventions in mind, and if a project is being saved as a project (rather than splitting it up int...

Re: Year field in metadata not saved with mp3 by export mult
I have been investigating my problem further, with the aid of Google and hex dumps of the beginnings of several mp3s. Windows Explorer (and Winamp) appear to expect a frame called "TYER" to indicate the year of the recording. Under ID3v2.3.0, the use of "TYER" is deprecated, and "TDRC" is preferred;...

Re: Year field in metadata not saved with mp3 by export mult
Thanks, Gale. I've checked the Year tag on an exported file with Windows Explorer (right-click on file name, choose "Properties", select "Summary" tab), and it's blank. I've checked the same file with Winamp - the year tag is blank. However, when I check it with iTunes, the correct year tag is there...

Re: Year field in metadata not saved with mp3 by export mult
The loss of the dialogue box in the process of a Multiple Export to MP3 which allows a choice of ID3v1 or ID3v2 tagging is clearly a retrograde step in the move from 1.3.3 to 1.3.4 - in which part of the forum should I emit the raspberry?

Re: Year field in metadata not saved with mp3 by export mult
Like you, I was in the middle of a recording, and couldn't test what you suggested immediately. Having completed the recording, I labelled it, and after selecting Multiple Export from the Files menu, I selected a destination directory and chose MP3 as the Export Format. Contrary to what you say, aft...
