Re: Is compression the answer?
Thanks for that, Steve. Unfortunately this is only one part of the project and I was looking for something a bit less time-consuming. I don't have the time to go through all the interviews (amounting to quite a few hours). I do appreciate your suggestion and might experiment with it when time permits.

Edit > Audacity Preferences > Audio I/O, then check what is set as your Playback Device.
Check also to see if you've muted anything in Volume Control.

I'm overseeing a heritage project where non-specialist volunteers are gathering oral history recordings. The subjects are mainly elderly and some have quiet voices. The recordings have been made at too low a level but I have improved them by normalising to -3 dB. Unfortunately there is considerable ...

Re: Stereo MP3 tracks load as mono
Grovelling apology time. I traced the problem to a corrupt artwork image attached to the files. I detached the image and Audacity (both versions) opens the files as stereo, reattached it and they're back to mono.

Re: Missing character z in label tracks
T hanks for that, alatham, I've made the change as you suggest. What puzzled me was that I could use upper case Z , changing to lower case in the filename and track title in Properties with Windows Explorer. Missing character z in label tracks
I've just started using the Label Track facility and find I can't use the lower case character z in label names. Is this a known limitation (a.k.a. feature
) or have I discovered a bug?

Re: Stereo MP3 tracks load as mono
T hanks for that, alatham, this is what I see: http://www.brentwoodit.plus.com/music/Audacity%20screen%20shot.jpg I also see a mono track when I open with Audacity v1.3.4. It seems that everything in that folder opens as mono, even though the file Properties say 2-track stereo. As a control, I can ...
