As far as I know Audacity does NOT offer dealing with AC3.
e.g. converting AC3 to MP3 is currently not possible.

Will this feature be included in the next release ?

Why not putting the license protected parts in a pre-compiled DLL and keep only the remaining "Main" source open source ?

"Reading" should never be a problem. RAR archiving format license for example is also protected by RarLabs but DE-compressing is always allowed. When will Audacity support AC3 ?

Without that AC3 feature Audacity is not very useful for me and for all other users who deal with AVIs
and video material.

I want to drag & drop an AVI onto Audacity (under WInXP). The AVI contains an AC3 audio track. Audacity should automatically identify the AC3 audio track. Then I want to export/save/strip the audio track and convert into MP3. Is this possible with Audacity ? Can Audacity handle AC3 tracks at all? Pe...
