are you sure the mixer is putting out both channels?
are you using a TS or a TRS 1/4 " plug?
Can we verify that both channels of the sound card are working?
after that wait for one of the mac experts to answer here.....

no medium wave is lo fi limited to 10kcps transmission bandwidth (5kcps signal since it uses both sidebands for am modulation) in mono plus static and other noise FM is high fi with 15kcps bandwidth in stereo with no noise if you had a strong signal for full quieting so fm has at least 3x the signal...
