first off amp out to mike in is asking for big problems even if you can tweak the gain down to almost nothing you risk distortion and perhaps if it is not stable you could get the change in levels you noted you really need an external audio interface that provides line in along with some gain contro...

if they just point to a dl link they are lower than whale **** most places provide the media none of them ever provided support they were just an easy way to distribute shareware/freeware more widely and easily lot of strange and bad stuff happens wrt ebay but they are giving the world what they wan...

what do you mean by splice ? you can select anything in the track and either copy/paste it to a new track or delete it from the original track create a new blank track then paste to it all the pieces you want from the original repeat as required to put together pieces from a bunch of tracks into one...

all i can say is that the problem is before the sound card and one guy solved that same problem by using headphone out and using the volume control on the receiver - that will lower the headphone out even if you cant adjust the line out -- required a cable/adapter but that worked if you are getting ...

in the old days there were many services that found and "sold" freeware and shareware programs as a service. easier to look at their catalog then to hunt them down from the source. usually cost $5-10 per disk plus shipping. everybody won with that model. with so many pc and music magazines...
