Re: Song fragmented into multiple .aup files

that is just how the data is saved to disk to avoid assorted problems with buffering etc. dont worry about it audacity handles the tiny files when you open a PROJECT to show you an entire recording on screen FEATURE REQUEST hide all those au files so people will stop playing with them, moving them s...

Re: One of us is stupid, and I don't think it's me.

i agree with your premise if not your implication do NOT open an au file open your aup project it will handle the files unless you moved things around if so - dont do that!! i really wish the honchos would hide the au stuff so people would stop trying to mess with it directly and that when they move...

Re: RECORDIND DISTORTS AFTER 5 MINUTES IN UBUNTU-LUCID

i will guess it is software and someone else will have ideas

my soundcard slowly drifted as i used it
perhaps you are getting a big dc offset that is pushing your recording into the clipping area even though it was set fine initially

Re: Need advice on clipping, Audacity or Cakewalk UG-1A?

i would record at -24dBFS far from clipping never pushing up to near 0 you can add all the gain you need later on sounds like cakewalk may be enforcing some headroom if you only get one shot at it then make sure you do not clip unless you enjoy distortion if you are copying a tape then you can push ...

one pro says to use this sequence

The order in which restoration processes are carried out makes a great deal of difference to the quality of the result. The correct sequence is declick, decrackle, debuzz, and then dehiss. This is because large clicks make it difficult for the de-crackle process to identify and remove the tiny click...

Re: Parameters for High Pass Filter and Noise Remover?

i would start the low cut filter at closer to 40cps corner freq maybe higher depending on the signal that the vinyl actually had if you are that picky i might run a commercial noise remover instead of the audacity. ditto declick etc. wikipedia points to more info on restoration and lots of software ...

Re: Amplify vs Normalize parameters

Chris's dynamic compressor was written because Chris had exactly the same problem listening to classical music in his car, ... I find some other compressors easier to work with for other purposes, but for evening out the volume of classical music for car listening, this is the one. I find the defau...

Re: FM radio capture / line noise

most of the stations i listen to are local so would have strong signal and hence good snr even with modest gain for limiting even if stereo cost some snr but i do hear one fm station in the car that is just as good it is about 40 miles away from the next city but am not sure if they aim their signal...

Re: Amplify vs Normalize parameters

... I am pretty confident that my equipment is well balanced. ... Unless you are unlucky, I would expect the kit that you have that you listed for us to be pretty well balanced provided you set it up right. You may however find the odd original recording which is not properly balanced - and you may...
