two issues you can remove any band of frequencies using eq lower the band you want out raise everything else andor run it through a high pass filter above the band you want to remove then run the original through a low pass below the band then add those two together the middle will be gone now as to...

if you really like quality you wouldnt use mp3

why do you need earphones to record an audio book ??
they are to hear what the rest of the band/music is doing
so you can stay in sync
voice over or book recording does not need any headphones
