Re: Saving Recordings
Have you selected your USB device as the recording device in audacity's preferences?
Do you get a blue wave after recording? or just a flat blue line?
Go to the mac's system preferences for audio, select the usb device as the input source, put an lp playing, does the sound meter move?

Re: DeNoise vs. Aud 1.3.12 Noise Removal
Yes. The trip through analog mixers and ribbon microphones, analog audiotape and multi-channel mixdowns doesn't always produce evil distortion. Sometimes it produces a pleasant warm rich sound which is why people still use vacuum tube amplifiers. And yes, it is distortion. Koz I was thinking about ...

Re: DeNoise vs. Aud 1.3.12 Noise Removal
P.S. - On the downside, all the work I've done so far is now obsolete. And after I've loaded my results into iTunes, I've destroyed my original raw files to save space. Maybe my next investment should be a 2T external HD, dedicated only to saving raw .aup files against the possibility of future gam...

And upgrade to 1.3.12. It's the recommended version for MacOS-X 10.5 or later.
You can get it from here: http://audacityteam.org/download/beta_mac
Audacity 1.2.6 doesn't play well with Leopard or more recent OS-X versions.

Re: How to record from different format
I have some music tracks in a format that I can only play in Winamp if using a plugin. I can't play them in Audacity due to this, is there a way around this? You could play the weird format track using Winamp and have Audacity record the sound ... http://audacityteam.org/help/faq?s=recording&i=...

Re: Books on Tape
I'm personally a fan of the sandisk sansa clip+ (lets you put a microSD in it for extra storage and plays a lot of formats including FLAC and ogg vorbis, not sure about speex but i can check).waxcylinder wrote:You should think about an MP3 player or iPod that you can plug into your car.
