Re: Is my recording level too low? Is my amplified level ok?

... the reason I have him down is because occasionally he accidentally blows on his wireless mic or saliva hits it or something and it makes a loud sound. It's hard to explain but I could easily find a clip of it if you wanted to hear. Maybe the "loud sound" is sibilance , which is treata...

Re: Removing/"muting" tracks (ie drums) from a song?

Is audacity capable of stripping a song apart? I am trying to figure out if this can delete or cut out just certain components of a song, such as the drums. I am not trying to cut out just the vocals or have vocals only, but am looking to see if this can dissect an mp3 into individual tracks, such ...

Re: input volume almost nil Mandriva 2010.2

What microphone are you using? Some mics have a very low output level, that's why most sound cards have a +20dB boost option on the mic input.

Re: Draft: HOWTO convert audio file formats

It would have been seriously unfriendly if I'd written the final "script" as: if [ -d converted ];then; echo "Folder already exists"; else; mkdir converted; for filename in *.wav; do; echo "$filename"; sox "$filename" "converted/${filename%%.wav}.ogg&quo...

Re: Books on Tape

Hello; I do this all the time. Example; Angels and Demoms, it is to long to put on a CD as is....put your Tape into a cassette player, get a 'Wire' with headphone jacks on both ends. Plug one into the headphone jack on the tape player and the other into the 'Mic' on your computer. You'll have Audac...

We need a little more info than that... What was the original format of the imported file? was it mono? 16 bits or 32 bits? did you export in the same bit depth?

Re: Draft: HOWTO convert audio file formats

I added some indentation to your final script, to make it more easily readable I'd left it not-indented because up to that point there is no mention of saving scripts as an executable file. My examples can all be run by typing, or copy/paste directly into a terminal window. The final example would ...

Re: 8th Grade Electronica

Ogg Vorbis is a lossy codec, that means it "damages" the show for reducing the file size. Lossy formats are good for final delivery, specially if you're going to share it on the internet, because of its reduced file size, but in the middle stages of audio processing you should always use l...

Re: Is my recording level too low? Is my amplified level ok?

If you apply the amplify effect with the default options it will amplify the sound so that the new peak will be 0dB, this is the maximum you should have, above that you get distortion. Some people prefer to be a bit more conservative (like me) and amplify to a new peak slightly below 0dB (usually so...

Re: Reel to reel conversion - old equipment

Audacity, if downloaded from the official website (the one wax posted), doesn't come with any adware.

Direct link for windows download page is this: http://audacityteam.org/download/beta_windows

Scroll down a bit on that page and you'll see a link for Audacity 1.3.12 installer.
