Re: Free Mixer
You can see what version you have in Help -> About. The latest beta (1.3.12) is recommended. In View menu you'll find an option "Mixer Board" (it will be greyed out if you don't have any tracks open). In the Tracks menu you'll find "Mix and Render". Whatever version you have you ...

Re: Stereo effect barely noticeable after exporting as MP3..
southboundpachyderm1 I can't help wondering if there was already a "southboundpachyderm," and that's why you have to be "1." Koz Some people like to use the same login name for everything (me being one of them... I could try to register with the name 'bruno' but that's usually t...

Re: Free Mixer
just to do the basic mixing of tracks, playing a bass track, then a guitar track, then an organ, then vocals, then mixing the tracks together I ve relooked at my audacity, cant see any way of doing it on there Do you already have all those instruments recorded into separate tracks (one above the ot...

Re: Best Practices?
What might work for some, might not work for others... Pick one of your recordings (one that you feel you need to apply several effects) and try applying those effects using different workflows. Save the end result for each workflow. Compare all of them and see which one produced the better result. ...

Re: audio damage when importing then exprting mp3????
Export the new MP3 at a nosebleed high bitrate (360 or higher) I believe Koz here meant to say 320 (kbps) and you can't go higher than that... The extent of mp3 compression damage depends mostly on the bitrates involved... If the original mp3 is at 320kbps it should have very little damage on it an...

(and the $75 cost would buy a lot of downloads, which would be cleaner than the tape capture) Not if the material on the tapes can't be bought... For example, if it's original recordings made by the user... I probably still have somewhere at my parents home some tapes I recorded of myself playing g...

Re: Another copy running
Gale, does audacity create any file in /var/run ? Many apps create a .pid file in /var/run with the pid of the running process.
I'm not currently on linux, nor I have access to any linux machine with audacity installed at the moment so I can't test this. I'm not sure if audacity does this...

Re: Cannot build SVN HEAD on Debian 5 Lenny
I don't remember if I had any trouble the first time I tried to build svn head. The last few times I compiled it all went fine... but like I said my system is a big mess of lenny/squeeze/sid packages... I can set up a clean pure-lenny virtualbox image tomorrow and see if I get into any trouble... I'...

Re: Trying to record from casette
I restarted X as 'root' and all problems disappear! That sounds like it was a permissions issue. Your normal user might not have the right permissions to access the sound device. I've never used slackware so I'm not very sure how to set the right permissions on your system. I'm actually quite surpr...
