Re: no sound when exporting to mp3
There are many ways a program can open the sound devices. Depending on the program, the sound system, the sound drivers, etc... sometimes an app can be 'greedy' and 'lock' the sound device and prevent other apps form accessing it. Audio systems such as PulseAudio and JACK, among other things, solve ...

Re: Cannot build SVN HEAD on Debian 5 Lenny
I just finished installing a pure lenny system on a virtualbox image. I installed the base system from netinst cd image (32 bits) release 5.08 and the rest from official repositories mirrors. During setup I installed only the standard system (no dekstop environment). Then I ran: apt-get build-dep au...

Re: Trying to record from casette
Probably 1.3.7 doesn't have yet the new preferences tab scheme. It's recommended that you try to upgrade to 1.3.12. Try upgrading to slackware 13.1 if you can. I'm not familiar with slackware so I can't give you much advice on it's package management system (which from what I could find might be a b...

Re: Audacity exports empty wav/mp3/etc
What version of Audacity are you using? Which linux distro? What is the source? Did you import some WAV files into Audacity? If so do you have selected the option for "do not copy any audio" in Preferences -> Projects? If so did you move or remove any of the original files? What format are...

Ok lets go by steps...
In Prefereces -> Devices which options do you have for host? And which options do you have for Recording device? (do you have a default option for both? try that first)

Re: Free Mixer
In the download page for windows: http://audacityteam.org/download/beta_windows you have different files to download, there's an .exe installer for Windows 2000/XP/Vista. There's also a .zip version. You probably downloaded the .zip version. No problem with that. Just unpack like you probably did. Y...

Re: audio damage when importing then exprting mp3????
AFAIK you can't export mp3 in 32 bits. I think you can export WAVs in 32 bits. Audio CDs are 16 bits (stereo and 44.1 kHz). Normal ears won't be able to tell the difference between 16 bits and 32 bits. mp3 is a lossy codec, that means it does damage in sake of compression and you can't change that.....
