Do you have sound in other programs? You've probably selected the wrong playback device in Preferences -> Devices -> Playback Start by trying "default", if you have that option available. Do you have pulseaudio or jack running on your system? 1.3.4 is a bit old... Doesn't your distribution...

If I disable dither in Audacity 1.3.12 on Linux I can export the project correctly.
If I enable shaped dither, I get the -1 samples.

I can't reproduce this on MacOS-X. Only happens on Linux.

Ok I've downloaded it and analysed it. At first it seems fine, but I could hear some spiky noise close to 1 min length. then I exported it as WAV and imported back to audacity.
