Re: Help needed recording Vinyl, results sound harsh

Resampling from 48 kHz to 44.1 kHz (or the other way) is not recommended. Those 2 frequencies were choosen on purpose to dificult conversion from one to the other. Have you ever tried an ABX test on that (double blind comparison)? With a good resampling algorithm the conversion is extremely close. ...

Re: wierd playback noise

What recording equipment are you using? What the usb interface? What's your DJ setup? How do you have it all connected? If you can please upload a small sample of the noisy part. Export 5 seconds of the show to WAV or FLAC and you can upload it here (check the upload attachment tab under the text bo...

Re: Multi-channel Recording in Audacity

if I want to simultaneously record both tables in stereo, is this considered 2 or 4 channels?) A stereo track has 2 channels (left and right). Two separate stereo tracks would be 2x2 = 4 channels. (had to purchase an adapter, because this computer doesn't come with a firewire port) Adapter from fir...

Re: Help needed recording Vinyl, results sound harsh

I may just stick with the 24/48 WAVs 48 kHz is the standard for DVD's. CD's standard is 44.1 kHz. If you plan on writing it to audio CDs later you should use 44.1 kHz instead of 48kHz. Resampling from 48 kHz to 44.1 kHz (or the other way) is not recommended. Those 2 frequencies were choosen on purp...

Re: Linux IDE for Audacity

I've been a vi guy for many years... Once you get used to it, it's hard to change to anything else... it's one of those cases where you either love it or hate it! :) After you get past the command/insert modes and switching between both you'll love it :) [flamewar]Some less bright people never get u...

Re: How to export audio while it's recording

Straight answer: no, audacity can't export to mp3 "on-the-fly". It always records uncompressed audio and you have to export to save to mp3 format. You don't tell us which operating system you have (windows? mac? linux?) so it's hard to give any recommendation without that piece of informat...

Re: Linux IDE for Audacity

I do sometimes work as programmer, but usually not on "graphical" software nor large (in source code size) projects like this. So I usually don't use IDE's (except in automation but there each maker provides its own IDE and completely different programming language, etc). That said the onl...

Re: a script to attenuate peaks?

Have you had a look at dynamic compressors? There's one built-in (effects menu -> compressor) in audacity. Chris compressor is also quite popular, you can get it from here: http://pdf23ds.net/software/dynamic-compressor/ There are a lot of threads on the forum about dynamic compression. You also hav...
