Amplify can be used to any value, either up or down... It can be used to decrease the amplitude too... (amplifying by a negative number)Audioguy wrote:Thanks for the great answers. I didn't know normalize analyzed each channel individually. I thought amplify was if you wanted to boost over 0db.

Re: Selection of audio in milliseconds
I can't reproduce that on 1.3.13 on Mac.
Can you give a more detailed step-by-step way of reproducing that?
Do you have "snap to" checked?

Re: Some clipping after normalize
Use amplify effect instead... It's right at the top of the effects menu. By default it aims for 0dB peak, but play on the safe side and amplify to something a bit less... Let's say -1dB (or -2dB if you want a safer margin...). The value can be decimal too... Values such as -1.5db or -0.8dB are possi...

Re: Need help getting Mic , etc. for voice recording
Sorry if I gave the wrong idea, I wasn't asking for the playback specs again, just reinforcing Koz comment that the perceived quality is quite dependent on the playback system of the listener... and the listener's ear by itself... "quality" is always a bit subjective... and not fully measu...

Re: Recording issues
It's hard to give any more advice without knowing any more info about the show, equipment used, placement, room, etc... If you can record some test sample that you can upload it would be helpful. What else can you tell us about the show? Brand and model of the mic? Where was it placed? Is it a direc...

Re: Need help getting Mic , etc. for voice recording
We forgot one important aspect affecting "quality", which is "playback". It's important to know where and how the target audience is going to listen to it and the delivery format. If it's going to be for a 24kbps mp3 embedded on a webpage it doesn't a top-of-the-line mic to achie...

Re: Opening a *.WAV file
Yes, Edgat, that might be it... I'm guessing what happens here is that audacity tries to import the file as WAV (in both cases). When it fails to do so, if ffmpeg is installed then it tries to import it using ffmpeg (and it succeeds), if ffmpeg is not installed audacity doesn't know what to do with ...

Re: ZOOM H1 AS EXTERNAL MIC WITH AUDACITY
thanks for the response. I should have clarified - I am using version 1.3 You posted in the 1.2.x section of the forum... I'll move it to the 1.3.x part of the forum... This is not a latency issue as I am not recording directly on to the computer - I am importing the tracks from the ZOOM H1 Can the...

Re: Save during recording
The second time you save a project it should open in the last used folder, so if you want to save the second project in nearly the same place there won't be so much browsing... You can also make several recordings in the same project each at a different track. Then you can export each track separate...

Re: Need help getting Mic , etc. for voice recording
I'd probably go for the logitech first and see if it works... It should be easy to find. Have a try at it and see if you're happy with the result... If not, well you have not spent a big fortune on it, you can keep it for skype calls, or see if you can return it and get your money back. Sound qualit...
