Re: Selecting PC Hardware for Audio Recording?

I don't think the problem would be in the hardware, but mostly in the software... Latency and speed on any recent hard drive should be more than enough to allow to record comfortably any audio stream at the required speed without dropouts. The main issue here I think is the software... Beginning wit...

Re: Recommend sound card for recording my mixing

Couldnt I just use a good soundcard inside my pc? say a soundblaster or something Why? If you can do it on the digital level why going to analog? Have you checked if your built-in soundcard on the computer has a s/pdif input? You might not need to buy anything... If you want to use the analog outpu...

BTW, you posted in the 1.2.x section of the forum I hope you're not using that ancient version of audacity...

Most linux distributions should have audacity 1.3.13 available from their repositoires by now...

Re: 16 Bit exports

You should have about the same. Some artifacts may occur due to dither algoritm. There have been some discussions on the forum about that. You do not need to work in 32 bit float though... You can change the default bit deph at Audacity Preferences -> Quality and do all the processing in 16-bit. The...

Re: Audacity, biggest problem i have ever seen

First, you should not double post. I merged the two topics. It's normal to have some delay when recording... The process of recording is not instaneous... The audio captured by the mic needs to be converted from an analog signal into a digital signal, among other thing... all that takes time... (usu...

Re: Effects not working

You need to be in stop mode to use the effects. If you are in playback or pause most options from the menus will be greyed out.

You posted in the 1.2.x section of the forum... are you really using audacity 1.2.x? On most modern macs you should be using audacity 1.3.13.

Re: Recording in a space with air conditioning / (ceiling) f

You don't do anything in Audacity before recording... If you haven't recorded anything yet you don't have a recording to apply an effect to... and audacity can't do anything in real time. Many mics have a builtin high pass filter (they often call it low cut filter). Maybe that's what Koz was referri...

Re: Please help - need to urgently find a way to do this

I'm not sure if this feature already existed in Audacity 1.2.x, but in version 1.3.x you have the "Sound finder..." feature in the Analyze menu.

Re: mic problems

That's too vague... you need to give us more info... Start by saying which operating system you have and which audacity version (Help -> About). What do you exactly mean by "audio does not work"? You can't listen? You can't record? Be more specific. To record from usb mic you should connect the mic ...
