Re: XENYX X2442USB

It's 1.2.6. I'll get on to downloading that tomorrow. I feel like I'm just missing something simple. Yes, you're missing Audacity 1.3.13 :) Audacity 1.2.6 is old and no longer in development. It doesn't work well in recent OS such as Windows 7, so it's no surprise it's not working for you. You real...

Re: Solo fingerstyle guitar effects

Where can I get more great ideas like that? There is a monster thread about recording acoustic guitar here: http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic.php?t=22109 There's a shorter version of it. The link is also at the bottom of the original post, but I'll post it here again: http://forum.audacitytea...

Re: audacity stops working when trying to record

Regarding slowliness try disabling the plugins in Preferences -> Effects. Specially VST plugins.

What mic are you using and how do you connect it to the computer? Internal built-in mic? External mic? USB mic?

What options have you selected in Preferences -> Devices for Host, Playback and Recording?

Re: XENYX X2442USB

Which Audacity version do you got? Check in the Help menu -> About.

Bundled Audacity versions are most likely quite outdated...

The recommended version for Windows 7 is 1.3.13. You can get it from: http://audacityteam.org/download/

Re: Selecting PC Hardware for Audio Recording?

I use MacOS-X and Linux. My laptops is a MacBookPro. All my other PCs run Debian GNU/Linux. For older PCs I'd probably recommend Linux. I've been a fan of Debian for a very long time. Steve will probably recommend Ubuntu Studio. Might be easier to install and setup, though I have never tried it. I h...

Re: Hype Take-to-mp3 converter

How do you connect the tape recorder to the computer? USB? You have to select the USB device as the recording device in Audacity Preferences -> Devices. You should connect it to the computer and turn it on before running audacity, so that it is detected by audacity. We can't tell you the exact name ...

Thank you Bill for clarifying this. That surely did the trick, I can now control the slider with the keyboard.

Re: 16 Bit exports

When I press Tab key it moves to the new peak textbox, not the slider. I couldn't find a way to adjust the slider using the keyboard on the Mac That may be a limitation of WxWidgets on Macs - it may be worth sending a note to the QA list to see if it's a bug or Mac "feature". Is that the same for a...

Re: 16 Bit exports

Like Steve said use the Amplify effect. Set the new peak amplitude to -0.1 dB Yes. By default the Amplify effect will be set to amplify up to 0 dB. 1) Click in the "Amplification" text box 2) Press the Tab key to move focus to the slider 3) Tap the left cursor key once to reduce the level by 0.1 dB....

Re: Audacity, biggest problem i have ever seen

Audacity 1.2 is very old and no longer supported, patched, corrected, or updated. Audacity 1.2 can be unstable on newer computers (specially on Windows 7 or Vista). It runs fine on XP. Download and install the latest Audacity 1.3 from here... http://audacityteam.org/download/ You can install both au...
