Re: Recording with my Mac 10.6.7

You don't give us enough information for us to be able to help you...

What are you trying to record with what and how? We can't guess...

What's your recording source? Internal mic? External mic? Some other device? How do you have it all connected?

Re: Equal Loudness normalizing

I still haven't tried out this plugin, but I have a doubt... I'm not familiar with the Replay Gain algorithm... does this plugin apply any kind of dynamic compression to the tracks to level the loudness? Or does it apply only simple linear amplification?

Re: CAN'T OPEN SAVE PROJECT

That character also appears in line 439. Remove that one too. You might find other "forbidden" characters that it might complain too, do the same procedure for those. You might also consider upgrading to the latest 1.3.13 version. Audacity 1.2 is very old and no longer supported, patched, corrected,...

Re: Normalization of stereo tracks

Some say it's a feature and that there was a reason for it to be that way, others might disagree... This has been quite discussed lately and there's a proposal to change that behaviour. Meanwhile if you don't want to lose the stereo balance you should use the amplify effect instead. It will basicall...

Re: not yet iplemented in a chain

I'm moving this to the 1.3.x section...

I've never used chains in Audacity so I rather wait for Steve to comment on that.

In the case you can't do it in Audacity and if you feel comfortable using the command line, you might want to have a look at SoX

Re: Lo-fi "distortion" when monitoring line-in

My first guess would be the sample rate... Maybe some apps are using 44.1 kHz while Audacity is at 48 kHz. Changing that does make any difference? What sound systems are you running? Do you have pulseaudio or jack installed? From what you say you seem to be accessing the sound card in audacity direc...

Re: Selecting PC Hardware for Audio Recording?

I usually split the hard disk into different partitions though. It doesn't improve performance, but it helps to keep things tidy up. It decreases performance. We recommend against it for either video or audio production. Partition file management is not free like it is on physical drives. Getting t...
