You're listening from two different sources, you're always going to have a delay.
What you can do is play with the latency parameter in the preferences to correct that in the recorded track, or you can use the time shift tool afterwards.

Re: headphones out of sync with speakers!
No need to double post. I merged both topics. The problem you're experiencing is due to latency. Conversion from analog to digital and all the signal processing happening between the sound coming from your mixer, going to the usb device and into the computer takes time to happen, that's why you have...
Re: Mono
Select the stereo track and from the Tracks menu select "Stereo track to mono".

Re: Rookie Question
How are you recording? Which equipment are you using (mics, preamp, soundcard, computer, etc..) and how do you have it connected? If you want to listen to the previously recorded track while recording the new one (overdub) you should use headphones to listen to it, if you listen through the speakers...

Re: Recording and old recording at the same time
Is it possible to have Audacity write the media stream directly to disk as soon as recorded? I could play it with a different player software then. Yes and no. Audacity will save the recorded audio to the disk while it is recording, but using audacity's own file formats and structure, which can't b...

Re: Audio very low - how to increase?
I am having difficulty in getting a reasonable volume level when making mono voice recordings. I am learning Spanish and want to make looped recordings of my Spanish lessons and use my MP3 player to listen. The problem is that even after following all help and online messages, when speaking into my...

Re: Recording and old recording at the same time
I want to record a single track, have it recording all day and to be able to navigate through it as much as I desire without the recording stopping. How can I achieve this? No, not with audacity, sorry. Audacity doesn't do anything in real time. You can't play or do anything else while you're recor...

Re: Syncing mistimed audio in audacity
@bgravato: I ended up experimenting with the change tempo function (as I wanted to keep the pitch the same) and adjusted it with -.15% speed. Worked fairly okay for most of the concert with the last five minutes of the concert *slightly* out of sync. I had individual files for different sections of...

apt-get is a package management tool for debian based distributions. For redhat based distros apt-get should also be available but it's not the default... The redhat/fedora equivalent is yum I'm not that much familiar with it so I'm not sure if there's a "build-dep" equivalent on yum, you'll have to...
