Re: External USB soundcard versus a USB microphone
There's also this thread about recording equipment for voice: http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=48132 From personal experience I can say that, as one might expect, there are no miracles... and you won't find top quality gear cheap (on the other hand you can more easily find expensiv...

Re: Choice of microphone for a young person to record with.
For dancing around without the constraints of the cables a good solution could be a bluetooth mic. I don't have any experience with any of those so I can't recommend any. They're probably going to be more expensive that the usb ones. Regarding the recording "technique" one thing that usually should ...

Re: Configuration challenges 10.04
I had occasion to reconfigure my partitions and in so doing un-installed win 7 and re-installed 10.04 and audacity from synaptic. By 10.04 you're referring to Ubuntu 10.04 right? Just a small note for further reference to other users reading this thread... a bit of history and disambiguation just f...

Re: No host or available devices on 1.3.14 alpha version
I tried that. Now I find a bunch of lines in my config.log like this: configure: running /bin/bash ./configure --disable-option-checking '--prefix=/usr/local/' '--enable-alsa' '--with-wx-config=/usr/bin/wx-config' '--disable-sqlite' '--disable-external-libs' '--disable-alsa' '--disable-programs' '-...

Re: No host or available devices on 1.3.14 alpha version
Maybe you're missing alsa libs. configure script probably can't find them so it disables alsa support.
Try forcing it with ./configure --enable-alsa
If it can't find the libs it will probably show an error message.

Re: delete frequency
You may use a notch filter, should be available in the Effects menu.
You may also use the Equalizer (Equalization from the effects menu also).

Re: 1.3.12 Beta language choice in Interface
Just for those who do not appreciate this: there is no interface option in the preference tab of 1.3.13. I don't know where you got your audacity build from... but unless it was tweaked by the distro's packagers it should have an option to change the language in the preferences. It's located in Pre...

Re: Hype Take-to-mp3 converter
I can't hear nothing until I start a recording. Then and only then you can hear the input. You can play the Hype, adjust every option, but if you do'nt press "Record", nothing is heard. Then it's not the same problem as the other users on this thread... I was told that the "Play through software" o...
