Avoida using non-alphanumeric characters in the names. That means no spaces, no accents, no punctuation, no weird characters... Stick to A-Z and 0-9 (and you can also safely use dash '-' and underscore '_').

Preferences -> Directories

You need to select "stereo mix" (name can be different in some systems) as the recording device. Not all computers running Windows 7 or Visa have that option available...

I'm assuming you have selected the USB device as the recording device in Preferences -> Devices and you've set it to record in stereo (2 channels). How do you connect the turntable to the usb device? On the transport menu make sure overdub is on.

I didn't find any noticeable difference between 1.3.13-beta and 1.3.14-alpha-Aug-27 I also tried with .ogg and .wav files, but the results are similar to the ones with .mp3 files. Try to follow those steps and see if you can get it to work that way.
