Re: audacity sometimes won't start when devices change
Looks like pulseaudio was only being used by apps that would try to send the audio through esd... I didn't have pavucontrol installed so I did and I found out that I can select if the input on the xonar is line-in or mic... which I couldn't with any other mixer I tried before (not even alsamixer... ...

Re: Continuous beep
try to poweroff and remove the battery... wait a minute and put the battery back and poweron
(do not hibernate, completely shut it down...)
if that doesn't work and if you still have windows installed on it try booting into windows...

Re: Increase input volume for system sound
I have an Asus Xonar Essence STX (and very happy with it! I think it's a great card), but I rarely use windows... (most of the time I'm using it on Linux) I'm not sure I fully understood what you're trying to achieve here... My only recording experience with the Xonar on windows was recording from t...

Re: audacity sometimes won't start when devices change
Steve I just found out I already have pulseaudio installed and running... hehe that might explain the two volume control applets on my gnome toolbar...
I'll be taking a look at it's configuration and see what I can figure out about it

Re: Continuous beep
You may try stopping the sound daemons... Are you running esd or pulseaudio? Also try opening the mixer and mute each interface one by one... I'd start by this one... To stop pulseaudio try typing in the command line: sudo /etc/init.d/pulseaudio status That will tell you if it's running or not, if i...

Re: Continuous beep
I'd say the most weird part is the beep still being there after rebooting... Eventhough this might seem even more weird... instead of just rebooting, try powering off the computer, wait a little, and turn it on again...

Re: SBLive! 5.1 - How to mute Line In to check playback...
the easy way is to pull the cable out of the line in need to do it often use a switching device and divert the line out to somewhere else I wouldn't call that the "easy way"... :P Maybe the brute force way or the hammer-like way? ;) One of my favourite quotes has always been: When the only tool ava...

Re: Ogg file won't import
Ogg is just a container format... Usually used for audio files encoded using the vorbis codec. Your file might or might not use the ogg container format and even if it does the codec might not be vorbis... I believe that when audacity tries to import a file it guesses the format by the file extensio...

Re: Sound doesn't work?
Ok, I'm completely new to Linux, but I managed to get Audacity installed, but when I try to play something there's no sound. I know my sound card works, because Rhythmbox is working perfectly. Do I need to configure it or something? How do I do that? I'm running Linux Mint 8, btw. You might need to...
