Re: If i uninstall and re-install will I lose my audacity fi
To describe the trick steve mentioned here in more detail here is a step-by-step guide, in his own words, from another thread : If you want to try the Noise Removal effect in Audacity 1.3.11, here's a "trick" that may help to achieve some effective lowering of the noise level without introducing hor...

Re: If i uninstall and re-install will I lose my audacity fi
I'm not a windows user so I can't comment on the crashing problems.
The noise removal in 1.3 is supposed to be much better than in 1.2... So that's really bizarre that 1.2's noise removal works better...

Re: change tempo/speed/pitch: which will shorten LENGTH?
What I think is happening here is that he has several tracks on the project, each one with some time padding in the beginning (+/-) equal to the length of the previous tracks. He probably wants to apply the change speed to all tracks in an overall way, but it is actually applying it only to one trac...

Re: If i uninstall and re-install will I lose my audacity fi
Short answer: No. Saved files on your hard disk will stay there regardless you have audacity installed or not... Reinstalling it might not be the solution for your problem though... What operating system are you running? If it's recent MacOS-X or Windows 7 you might want to install Audacity 1.3, des...

Re: Ubuntu 7.10 (I know) audacity won't record
it would help to know what device you're trying to record from... laptop or desktop computer? built-in soundcard (line-in? mic?)? external one? usb? firewire? try what steve says here: http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=32938#p89257 or here: http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic.ph...

Re: Timeline Behaving Strangely
I think he's talking about the timeline bar at the top. If it's that it works fine here... I'm on MacOS-X 10.6.3 too and I tried it both in audacity 1.3.12 and 1.3.13. Works fine in both.

Want you want is a compressor. If you search the forums you'll find some threads about that subject. Chris compressor is often mentioned and praised.

Re: Ethernet Device setting for recording??
To make sure the problem is the software and not the hardware you could try to run a linux live cd that comes which audacity and try it out on your laptop... I don't if there is any linux live cd with audacity included... but I'd bet there is... Steve do you know of any?

Re: Why does it seem to take forever for Audacity to open?
Have you tried to reset audacity preferences to default? From another thread : Have you ever had version 1.2.x of Audacity installed? If so, you may have a corrupted preferences file. It may be worth trying to reset the preferences in any case. To reset your preferences: With Audacity not running......
